Legendary: Pitt’s wall of death
As a steep wall rider at the Oktoberfest: a childhood dream comes true.
Cameroon
Germany’s only former colony
In the former German colony, Doris Wiedemann climbed her first 4,000-meter peak, Mount Cameroon, and also took “Rotbäckchen” – the BMW F650GS Dakar she rode in China – on several tours, met people, looked for turtles and visited gorillas, thus getting to know “her” first West African country.
Winter trip to Alaska
By motorcycle from +25° to -52° – from Florida to the Arctic Ocean
The first trip with a travel partner. Doris Wiedemann drove from Key West, Florida, the southernmost point of the continental USA, to Prudhoe Bay on the north coast of Alaska, the northernmost point of the USA that can be reached on public roads. Through ice and snow. In the middle of winter. In what felt like temperatures of minus 52°C, she is the first woman to ride the Dalton Highway on a motorcycle in winter.
China illegal
17,000 km by motorcycle alone in the Middle Kingdom
The People’s Republic of China is off-limits with your own vehicle. You need a state-appointed guide there – actually. But after an arrest and several unsuccessful attempts, it worked: without a driver. Without vehicle documents. Without a driver’s license. Without a permit, Doris Wiedemann drove 17,000 kilometers through China in six months and even appeared on state television.
In the footsteps of Genghis Khan
Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, China
“I’ll get your motorcycle into China, but not out again.” This vague promise was reason enough for Doris Wiedemann to leave everything behind and ride through Poland, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Mongolia to the Chinese border. Along the way, she repeatedly came across the traces of Genghis Khan. He made a huge impression on her and founded the largest contiguous empire in the world.
Taiga Tour
40,000 kilometers – one woman – one motorcycle and many unforgettable encounters
An invitation to drink coffee in Seoul tempted me to take a trip across Russia: I was just as surprised by Russian hospitality as I was by the ban on motorcycles in South Korea. The trip to the largely isolated North Korea was a very special experience and just as unplanned as the spontaneous visit to Japan and the return journey over the snow-covered Ural Mountains.
Where is your husband?
Seven months + 28,000 kilometers + the same question over and over again
The people in Africa could no more imagine a woman riding a motorcycle alone across the black continent than people in Germany. Doris Wiedemann saw great hardship on her journey and at the same time experienced very special hospitality. She still finds it difficult to integrate these experiences into her comparatively luxurious life in Germany.
The ‘most toxic’ continent
Six months: Sydney, Perth, the Kimberleys, a broken collarbone, Darwin, Ayers Rock, rainforest, Brisbane, Cairns, Melbourne – a tremendously impressive natural environment makes Australia truly unique. But in the end, it was the people who made the trip to Australia a highlight in Doris Wiedemann’s life.
Freedom and adventure
The USA infects me with the travel virus
Doris Wiedemann had two destinations on her first big trip: the Grand Canyon and the 50th Sturgis Rally, the largest motorcycle rally in the world at the time. She bought a Honda Shadow from a chimney sweep and rode it across the USA for five months. The tour laid the foundation for her further adventures.
